Why I Built HOTPOLY
October 13, 2026
Many dating apps have a fundamental conflict of interest with their users. They make more money the longer you stay on their platforms and the more you use them.
Over time, dating apps have introduced frustrating microtransactions and algorithms that can make it more difficult to connect with people. Their business models reward keeping you engaged and paying, rather than helping you find a good match and move on.
Their obligation is to their investors, not you.
I wanted to build something different.
My goal is to help you find good matches quickly. I built HOTPOLY to be low-cost from the start so I wouldn't have to sacrifice the user experience to maximize revenue.
I still need to pay the bills, so there is a premium subscription. But the basic features are free, and I haven't deliberately made them frustrating or less useful to push you into paying.
The features that cost me the most money to provide, such as the ID-verified photo badge, are included in Premium. There's a real cost to providing these services.
I figure if people subscribe for a month or two, find a great partner, and leave happy, they'll tell their friends about HOTPOLY. And if they ever need a dating app again, I hope they'll come back.
Of course, finding one partner doesn't mean you're done dating, especially in polyamory. Whether you find one great partner and leave or continue building meaningful connections, I want HOTPOLY to help you get what you're looking for without wasting your time or money.
I don't measure success by how long I can keep you paying. I measure it by whether HOTPOLY helps you make meaningful connections. If you find what you're looking for and never need to pay me another dollar, that's a success in my book.
I don't need to sacrifice quality or ethics to deliver that experience, and I don't need to gouge you to make it sustainable.
I don't have investors demanding more revenue or shareholders expecting endless growth. I get to make decisions based on what's best for my users and what I believe is right.
